Before 4pi can ship a system, we have to have certain information about your microscope (for S(T)EM imaging) and your pulse processor and detector (for EDS). The information you provide will help us fill your order quickly and accurately.

Each item has a brief explanation associated with it (not all items may pertain to your setup). Please be sure to include your contact information so we can follow-up on any unresolved issues. The accompanying diagram will assist you in answering the questions. Submit this form electronically using the button at the bottom of the page.

Microscope External Scanning Interface. For digital imaging, your microscope must have an external scanning interface built in. This is either an integral part of the microscope as delivered or an interface added by the microscope manufacturer or by a third party.
Present Microscope (ex. JEOL 35C):
External SEM control interface present? no yes don't know

Unfortunately, this is not the only information we need. Details of the scanning interface are also required. In particular, we need the following information (examples are shown but may not apply to your microscope). If you do not know this information, we may already have it for your microscope. If we do not, you will have to send us your scanning interface schematics and manual so we can determine the correct signals. Contact support for more information.
X-scan (fast scan) voltage range (ex. -7 to +7):
Y-scan (slow scan) voltage range: (ex. -5 to +5)
video out voltage range: (ex. -1/black to +2/white)
external enable relay voltage: (ex. 0/on +5/off)
horizontal CRT blank relay voltage: (ex. +5/on 0/off)
vertical CRT blank relay voltage: (ex. none)

Microscope Pass-through Function: If you are currently using another system for scanning control and image acquisition, we may be able to provide cables that will allow you to continue using it in parallel with the 4pi imaging system.
pass-through requested? yes no
if yes, existing scan control system: (ex. Hitachi DBC box)

Microscope Scan Control Cable Length: The Scanning Interface Unit must be placed within two feet of the computer. Unless otherwise requested, our standard cable length of 10 feet will be provided to connect the scanning interface unit to your electron microscope. Please study your laboratory layout, and consider the route your electron microscope cable will have to take. We recommend no longer than 15 feet to avoid drive and noise problems. Of course, less than 10 feet is also acceptable -- the shorter, the better.
Microscope (SEM) Cable: standard 10 feet other length:

Pulse Processor Interface: (not applicable if you are purchasing the Gresham Titan pulse processor from 4pi). For X-ray microanalysis, you must have a 3rd-party pulse processor, preamp, and detector. The 4pi system connects to the pulse processor. The pulse processor must have externally available connections (almost all do; contact 4pi if you are not sure). We need to know which pulse processor you have so we can provide the correct cabling and software.
Present EDS system: (ex. Kevex 8000)
Present Pulse Processor: (ex. Kevex 4460)

Detector Interface: (not applicable if you are purchasing the Gresham detector from 4pi). Connection between the pulse processor and detector can consist of one or more cables. Typically there is a cable from the pulse processor to the pre-amp, and there may be a separate cable from the pulse processor to the detector for the high-voltage bias. If the separate bias cable exists, it is typically coaxial and may use one of three coax connectors. We need to know what type of coax connector is used for your detector bias cable. We also need to know the bias voltage.
Present preamp: (ex. EDAX 183A)
Bias voltage: (ex. -600V)
Bias Connector:
BNC bnc connector
MHV mhv connector
SHV shv connector

Pulse Processor (PHA I/O) Cable Length: 4pi's scanning interface unit must be placed within two feet of the computer. Unless otherwise requested, our standard cable length of 10 feet will be provided to connect the scanning interface unit to your pulse processor. Please study your laboratory layout, and consider the route your pulse processor cable will have to take. We recommend no longer than 15 feet to avoid drive and noise problems.
Pulse Processor Cable: standard 10 feet other length:
